DHAKA: The High Court has granted six weeks of anticipatory bail to 94 leaders, activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in two cases filed over clash during party programs in Narayanganj and Madaripur.
An HC bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice Amir Hossain granted the bail on Tuesday (Sep 12) after holding hearing on bail petitions in the two cases.
Supreme Court Bar Association president senior lawyer Joynul Abedin along with lawyer Sagir Hossain Lion moved for the petition in court.
On Sep 6 last year in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj, a violent clash broke out during a program announced by BNP central authority. Later Araihazar police station sub-inspector (SI) Mahfuz, as plaintiff, filed a case in this connection.
The HC granted bail to 86 BNP men in this case.
On the other hand, on Sep 4 in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur, another clash broke out during a BNP announced program. Later a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League, filed a case.
The HC granted bail to eight people in this case.
