DHAKA: BNP Standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury commented that it will be a dangerous venture if his party participate in the upcoming national election with no deployment of army.
He was addressing a discussion marking the BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman’s birthday, at the VIP Lounge of Jatiya Press Club Friday (November 17).
Jatiya Nagorik Sangsad organized the discussion titled ‘Leadership of Next Generation & Tarique Rahman’.
“In sound brain it will be a perilous step to attend the election if the defence forces aren’t transformed into law enforcement agencies. And, therefore, they (the ruling party) have kept the military outside of law enforcers”, said Khasru.
“Awami League wants to assume the power keeping the army out of the election.”
“The present government is eager to arrange the election without army deployment, only to execute their plan. They, who are holding power today, have cancelled the army deployment in polls. Moreover, they have repealed caretaker government system and arranged election not dissolving the parliament”, he added.
Jatiya Nagorik Sangsad President Khaleda Yasmin presided over the program.
AZM Zahid Hossain, secretary general of pro-BNP Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB) and BNP Executive Committee member Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmat Ullah were among other present there.
