Members of a Hindutva organization vandalized the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala on Monday (December 2). 

The attack came during a protest organized by the group against alleged discrimination of Hindus in Bangladesh and the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das.

The protest was held in front of the Gandhi statue near the Circuit House in Agartala. After the demonstration, a six-member delegation from the group submitted a memorandum to the Assistant High Commission.

At one point, agitated members of the organization stormed the premises of the High Commission. They removed the national flag of Bangladesh, tore it apart, and set it on fire. The protesters also damaged a signboard outside the building and set it ablaze.

A female member of the group told local media outlet Jagaran Tripura that Hindus in Bangladesh are being continuously persecuted and that the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das was unwarranted. She claimed that the vandalism was a reaction to these issues.

Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) forces rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control after significant effort.

B.K. Roy, an executive member of the organization, claimed they were unaware of what happened outside the High Commission premises. He said the delegation completed its deputation and left without encountering anyone inside the office.

High-ranking officials of the Tripura Police visited the scene after the incident. They inspected the damaged office and held discussions with officials from the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
