Foreign Adviser stresses mutual respect in Dhaka-Delhi ties

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain said that Bangladesh seeks a strong and positive relationship with India, but it must be based on mutual respect and understanding.

He underscored that the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two countries, initially scheduled for December 10, might be held a day earlier.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (Dec 4), Touhid Hossain said, “It is very clear that we want good relations, but it should be reciprocal. We must work towards that goal.”

According to sources, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to visit Bangladesh amidst ongoing challenges in Dhaka-Delhi relations. This will mark the first visit by a senior Indian official to Bangladesh since the interim government, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, assumed office.

Foreign Secretary Misri is expected to attend the FOC meeting on December 9-10, where both sides are likely to discuss a range of bilateral issues.
