The army arrested two people along with firearms during a raid in Ashoktola, Comilla, on Monday night.

The detainees, identified as Zakir and Liton from Ward 6 of Comilla city, are reportedly affiliated with the ruling Awami League and face two existing cases.

Captain Sadman of the 23rd Battalion of Infantry Regiment disclosed the matter at a press briefing held on Tuesday (January 14) morning at the army's temporary camp at BRT Training Depot in Cumilla.

He said Zakir was apprehended during the operation, and information provided by him led to the arrest of Liton. 

The recovered items included two 7.65 bore pistols, 11 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, machetes, knives, and other local weapons, he said.

The two suspects are set to be handed over to Kotwali Model Police Station for further legal action, the official added.
