Clean energy is about people, says EU Ambassador EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, during launching the campaign

EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller on Thursday said the clean energy transition is about people – their access to reliable power and economic opportunities.

He made the remark while launching the “I’ve Got the Power” campaign to promote renewable energy and sustainability in Bangladesh.

The campaign was launched in collaboration with popular Bangladeshi hip-hop artist Critical Mahmood.

EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, during launching the campaign said, “The clean energy transition is about people – their access to reliable power and economic opportunities. This campaign shows how we can build a better future for all.”

He said, “This campaign should make us think about how we can all work to build a sustainable future for individuals and communities in Bangladesh.”

The campaign celebrates the partnership between the EU and Bangladesh in building a greener and more sustainable future. It highlights the real-life impact of EU-supported renewable energy projects on individuals and local communities.

Critical Mahmood’s new track, I’ve Got the Power, serves as the campaign’s anthem.

Speaking about the initiative, he said, “Renewable energy is crucial for the future prosperity of Bangladesh. I’m proud to lend my voice to this mission with the EU.”

The campaign is part of the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, which includes the Bangladesh Renewable Energy Facility. This facility plans to install around 750 megawatts of renewable energy using solar and wind power, along with battery storage systems.

The campaign tells the stories of people like Selim, an e-rickshaw driver from Kaligonj who powers his vehicle with electricity, and Nusrat, a young cricketer who trains using lights powered by renewable energy. Their experiences show how clean energy is improving daily life and livelihoods.

The Global Gateway initiative is the EU’s global investment strategy to improve smart and clean connections in energy, transport, health, education, and digital sectors. It aims to mobilise up to €300 billion worldwide by 2027.

Critical Mahmood is widely recognised for mixing traditional Bengali music with modern hip-hop, often using his platform to raise awareness of social and environmental issues.
