The investigation report on the alleged July genocide involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be submitted to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office on Monday (May 12), according to Tazul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
He shared the development on Friday (May 9) through a post on social media platform Facebook.
In the post, Tazul Islam said that the investigation agency of the tribunal has completed preparations to submit the report against Sheikh Hasina. “We hope to officially hand it over to the Chief Prosecutor on Monday,” he stated.
He said that after the report is submitted, the tribunal will begin the trial process by framing a formal charge against Sheikh Hasina.
Tazul Islam also informed that the investigation report on the Chankharpul killings involving senior police officials has already been submitted. The formal charge in that case is expected to be filed within this week, starting the judicial proceedings.
Earlier on April 20, the Chief Prosecutor of the tribunal had said there is evidence of Sheikh Hasina’s involvement in genocide and crimes against humanity during the July-August mass uprising led by students and citizens.
He said that the investigation revealed the killings were carried out under state decision and superior responsibility. Sheikh Hasina, along with her cabinet and police officials, allegedly planned and executed the actions.
