DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has postponed the by-election of Tangail-4 constituency till January 31 next year.
The apex court also asked the High Court (HC) bench led by Justice Ashfaqul Hossain to settle the rule issued by the HC within the aforesaid time.
On October 27, SC vacation chamber judge Syed Mahmud Hossain set November 2 for full bench Appellate Division hearing a petition filed by the Election Commission (EC) on Kader Siddiqui’s nomination legality.
On October 26, the EC filed a petition seeking stay the High Court order that declared Kader Siddique’s nomination paper legal.
The HC, on October 21, asked the Election Commission (EC) to accept nomination paper of Kader Siddiqui in the by-polls of Tangail-4 constituency.
However, according to the EC, the Tangail by-poll was scheduled to be held on November 10.
