Khaleda’s defence hearing deferred till Jan 12 BNP Chairperson Khaleda appears in court

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday (January 5) has fixed January 12 as the next date for hearing the defence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage graft cases.

Khaleda Zia started from his Gulshan residence around 10:00am and reached the court of third special Judge Abu Ahmed Jomader in Bakshi Bazar area around 11:25am to place her statement.

Earlier on December 21, the special court adjourned Khaleda’s self defence hearing and set the date for today (January 5).

On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.  

On the other hand, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.

BNP senior Leaders and lawyers are also present at the court.
