GAIBANDHA: Police detained a former Vice-chairman of Sundarganj Upazila Parishad in connection with his alleged involvement in killing Gaibandha -1 (Sundarganj) MP Manzurul Islam Liton. 

The former UP Vice-chairman Ahsan Habib, 44, son of Aftab Uddin, was arrested from his own home in Sundarganj, municipality area, ward no-9 on Sunday morning (8 January).

Confirming the matter to Banglanews, Sundarganj Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Atiar Rahman said that he will be sent to prison through court after initial questioning.

Earlier around 6:00 pm Saturday (31 December), MP Liton was shot by an unknown assailant at his own home in Shahbaj area under Sundarganj upazila and rushed to Rangpur Medical College (RMC) while the duty doctor Bimol Kumar declared him dead on arrival.

Later, deceased’s sister Tahmida Bulbul filed a case with Sunderganj Thana around 11:30 pm accusing four-five unknown person.
