DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia appeared before the court on Monday morning (January 30) to place her statement in Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.

The BNP chief started from his Gulshan residence around 10:30 am and reached the court of third special Judge Abu Ahmed Jomader in Bakshi Bazar area around 11:15 am.

Earlier on Thursday (January 29), the court ordered the BNP chairperson to appear before the court on Monday adding that it, otherwise, would cancel her bail.

The court also issued an arrest warrant against BNP’s senior vice-president Tarique Rahman as he did not appear before the court.

On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.

On the other hand, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008, with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
