Rizvi calls new CEC not to take office

DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday (February 10) called on newly selected chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda to step down from the constitutional position.

He made the call during addressing a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the morning.

Rizvi alleged that “Rakibuddin-led election commission (EC) was fully obedient to the ruling Awami League and destroyed the election process.

“The new CEC is much more committed to AL than CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad,” he added.

The senior BNP leader further said: “We will welcome him if he desists himself from assuming the office of the chief election commissioner showing honor to public sentiment.”

“Nurul Huda expressed his commitment to ruling AL in several of his speech he gave after being elected as chief election commissioner. Elections under him would also be voterless.”
