MUNSHIGANJ: An activist of Jubo League, a front organization of ruling Awami League, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Munshiganj Sadar upazila early Monday (February 13).
The deceased was identified as Shahjalal Mizi, 28, an accused in 22 cases and had warrant against him on seven cases.
Superintendent of Police (SP) in Munshiganj Zayedul Alam told Banglanews that they arrested Shahjalal Mizi on Sunday afternoon.
Later, police took Shahjalal to Kathbadam area to recover arms as per his information. But, Shajala’s accomplices tried to snatch him from police that triggered a gunfight around 3 am, leaving him dead on the spot and three cops injured, he added.
Injured police members were treated at Munshiganj General Hospital, SP added.
Zayedul Alam further said the law enforcers recovered two pistols, two Chinese axes and several locally made weapons from the scene.
Police sent the body of Shahjalal Mizi to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he added.
