‘Khaleda to compete in polls even if she gets convicted’ Barrister Moudud Ahmed

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Saturday (February 25) remarked Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be able to compete in the next general elections even if the court convicts her.

Modud made the remark while addressing a program as chief guest at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium. Bangladesh Labor Party organized the program to mark the Pilkhana tragedy day.

“Let me clarify a point today, this is not true that BNP chairperson will not be able to compete in general polls if she gets convicted. She will be able to take part in polls even after being convicted in ‘false’ cases. This also will increase her popularity.”

He further said: “Let us suppose she gets convicted. We will go for appeal against the verdict and appeal for her bail. This is a continuous process. So, there will be no hindrance for Khaleda Zia for participating in the next general elections directly.”

“She will not only participate in the polls but also lead the party,” he added.

“We want to solve ensuing political problems peacefully and through discussion. If we will fail in that way, there will be no options left except movement,” Moudud added.

Bangladesh Labor Party’s chairman Dr. Mostafizur Rahman presided over the program where BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon also addressed.
