DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday (March 8) has granted BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s petition to transfer the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in another trial court asking to dispose of the trial proceedings within 60 days.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sahidul Karim passed the order after reviewing the petition.
Lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali accompanied by Barrister Ragib Rouf Chowdhury and barrister Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan moved for the petition while Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan opposed the appeal.
“In response to the appeal, the court ordered to transfer the case from Special Judge’s court-3 to Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s court. Personally I am happy with this decision as it won’t interrupt the regular trial proceedings”, said Khurshid Alam.
The ACC authority will decide whether to challenge the HC transfer order, he added.
Earlier, on February 8, the BNP chief filed the petition challenging the order of the Special Judge's Court-3 which rejected her no confidence petition.
On March 5, the HC fixed Wednesday (March 8) for passing the order on the revision petition.
Earlier on July 3 of 2008, ACC filed a case against six people, including Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman for allegedly misusing Tk 21,071,671 from the funds of the Zia Orphanage Trust.
