DHAKA: BNP’s standing committee member Dr. Moyeen Khan said development cannot help people if there is no democracy.
He made the remark at a discussion meeting at Bhasani auditorium in city’s Nayaaaltan on Saturday (March 11).
Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal, the woman wing of the BNP, arranged the discussion to mark the 11th Detained Day anniversary of BNP’s senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
Dr. Moyeen Khan said, “The government reiterated that development is first, then democracy. “We clearly say that the development without democracy will never bring benefit for the people,” he said.
Addressing the function, BNP’s senior joint secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said that the government is spreading propaganda against Tarique Rahman.
Mahila Dal’s senior vice-president Nurjahan Yeasmin presided over the meeting, while general secretary Sultana Ahmed conducted the programme.
Vice-president of the Mahila Dal Zeba Khan, joint general secretary Helen Zerin Khan, Dhaka city Mahila Dal leaders Rokeya Chowdhury Baby and Nilufar Yasmin Nilu also addressed the discussion, among others.
