DHAKA: A Dhaka court fixed March 28 as the date to frame charges against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in 11 cases, including sedition.
The court of Metropolitan sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Molla passed the order after Khaleda Zia’s lawyer had appealed for time.
Meanwhile, the BNP chief did not appear before the court due to her sickness.
On January 25, 2016, Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi filed the lawsuit with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Hakim Rashed Talukder for her derogatory comment over the number of people who sacrificed their lives in the War of Liberation in 1971.
Besides, police filed eight cases against Khaleda Zia in 2015 for her alleged involvement with the sabotage throughout the country.
Jatrabari police station sub-inspector (SI) KM Nuruzzaman filed another case under explosives act on January 24, 2015.
The other accused in the case with Jatrabari Thana are -- standing committee member MK Anwar, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, ex-joint secretary general Amanullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu, chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Shawkat Mahmood , chairperson’s press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel and chairperson’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.
