Dispose of Ekram murder case in 6 months: SC

DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday cancelled the bail of local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury alias Minar Chowdhury, the prime accused in Feni’s Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram murder case.

The Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, in its order also asked to dispose of the murder case within six months.

On November 24 in 2016, the High Court following a bail petition filed by Minar Chowdhury granted him six-month bail in the case. Later, the government filed an appeal challenging the HC’s order.

Attorney general Mahbubey Alam represented the state in the court, while Mansurul Haque Chowhdury took part in the hearing for Minar Chowdhury.

On May 20 in 2014, the terrorists killed Ekram publicly in Feni town by attacking his microbus and firing shots on him and then set fire to the vehicle.

Later, Ekram’s brother Rezaul Haque Jasim filed a case with Feni model police station, accusing Minar Chowdhury and 30 to 35 anonymous people.
