DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the High Court order that stayed the government suspension decision of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
The HC’s order upheld through a decision of the three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, on Thursday (March 23). The bench says that there is ‘no order’ in this regard.
Barrister Mainul Hossain moved for Ariful Haque Chowdhury, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state in the apex court.
Earlier on March 13, an HC bench comprising Justice Syed Mohammad Dastgir Hossain and Justice Ataur Rahman Khan stayed the government suspension order of the SCC mayor.
On January 7 in 2015, the ministry of local government, rural development and co-operatives suspended the SCC Mayor.
