MEHERPUR: Police claimed to have detained at least 24 leaders and workers of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from a clandestine meeting in Meherpur.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Meherpur sadar police station Ikbal Bahar Chowdhury told Banglanews that they detained the Jamaat men from the residence of one Abdur Razzak at Tengramari village under sadar upazila at about 12:00 am on Tuesday (April 05). The Jamaat men joined a secret meeting there, he added.
The OC also said that they retrieved some Islamic books from procession of the Jamaat men.
According to the OC, a case will be filed against the Jamaat men under the Special Powers Act, 1974. Later, they will be produced before the court.
