Mirza Fakhrul smells rats at defense treaty

THAKURGAON: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir smells rats at the initiative of singing defense treaty with India during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ongoing New Delhi visit.

“If India is our friend country, why it requires of signing defense treaty? Does India suspect us or we suspect the neighboring country?” asked the BNP leader.

Mirza Fakhrul said these while speaking at a memorial meeting at Sukhanpukuri D-hat in Thakurgaon on Saturday (April 08).

He said that the people of Bangladesh won’t survive without water sharing of Teesta River. But the Teesta deal is still due. “We won’t get proper share of water from the trans-boundary rivers. Killing by India across the border won’t be stopped. We are not getting our rights from India. But we will give them. These are regretful, said the BNP leader.

He said that the countrymen won’t allow any treaty with India until resolving the water issue.

The BNP leader also criticized the incumbent government for its ‘motive to keep the BNP far from election through delivering verdict against BNP leaders in false cases’. “If BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia can’t take part in elections, the people won’t allow any election in country,” he said.
