SYLHET: Police claimed to have detained at least seven leaders and workers of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student of the Jamaat-e-Islami, from a clandestine meeting in Sylhet. Shibir’s district unit president is among the detainees.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Sylhet Suggyan Chakma at a press conference at Sylhet SP office on Saturday noon (April 08) informed the news of Shibir men’s arrest.
The ASP said that they detained the Shibir men from the residence of one Mansur Uddin at Hatubhanga village under Maizgoan union at Fenchuganj upazila in Sylhet at midnight on Friday (April 07). The Shibir men joined a secret meeting there, he added.
The police official said that they retrieved some Jihadi books, anti-government leaflets and party leaflets from procession of the Shibir men.
The detainees are- Shibir’s Sylhet district west unit president Shafayat Ahmed, 31, Fenchuganj upazila Shibir president Humayun Ahmed, 22, Alamgir Hossain, 23, Jahangir Hossain, 20, Sarwar Ahmed, 25, Oliur Rahman, 19, and Akhter Hossain.
