CHUADANGA: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained the military wing chief of Jhenaidah district unit of banned militant outfit-- Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami Bangladesh (HuJi) on Saturday (April 29).
The detainee Abdul Alim, 50 hails Abhoytola village under Patkelghata upazila of Satkhira.
The RAB members detained the HuJi leader from graveyard area at Hat Gopalpur village in Jhenaidah district in the early hours.
Rab sources said that on information, four teams of RAB conducted drive and nabbed the HuJi leader.
ASP Golam Morshed of Jhenaidah camp of RAB-6 said that Abdul Alim had close ties with executed HuJi leader Mufti Abdul Hannan.
After the terror attack in Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital’s Gulshan in 2016, a group of some 8-10 HuJi leaders took shelter in Jhenaidah, said Golam Morshed.
Abdul Alim admitted that some trained HuJi members were planning to carry out sabotage activities in large scale after taking shelter in Chuadanga, Meherpur and Jhenaidah over some days, said Golam Morshed.
However, Abdul Alim was shown arrested in a case filed in anti-terror act, and has been sent to the jail on Saturday noon after taking confessional statement at a Jhenaidah court.
