‘BNP ready to go for polls under supportive govt’

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that his party is ready to go for the next polls if government paves the way to make that fair.

He made the comment to reporters after placing floral wreath at the tomb of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday morning (May 2).

Fakhrul placed wreaths at Ziaur Rahmans’s grave accompanied by the leaders of BNP’s associate organization Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal marking its 37th founding anniversary.

Earlier on May Day (May 1), Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said that a total of 300 candidates of AL are ready for polls.

In a query about BNP’s condition, Mirza Fakhrul said BNP is ready for polls if the election-time government can accommodate a free and fair election.

“Since Awami League has no support from the mass people, they are deviating from democracy as a result of that realization. If a free and fair election can take place, then countrymen will respond.”
