DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the ruling Awami League government has created the Constitution a party-paper.
He made the comment while addressing a discussion meeting at the auditorium of Shishu Kalyan Parishad in city’s Topkhana Road on Wednesday (May 03).
Bangladesh Kalyan Party arranged the discussion on “Qualitative Change in the Politics and the Next Elections”.
Chairman of the party Syed Muhammad Ibrahim Birprotik presided over the function, while BNP’s central committee member Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah and Kalyan Party’s secretary general MM Aminur Rahman also spoke it, among others.
Mirza Fakhrul criticized the ruling party leaders for thinking to hold the next elections under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.
“You (ruling party leaders) are now talking that the next elections will be held as per the Constitution. Which Constitution? The constitution that has become your party paper? It means the elections will be held under you and the result will go in favor of you. Such elections won’t be allowed in the country,” said the BNP leader.
He said that they want an election-time government. Talks may be held on the issue. But you are reluctant to sit in talks, he added.
Quoting the comments of the Chief Justice, Mirza Fakhrul said that there is no rule of law in the country. The government is influencing the judiciary, he alleged.
