Stay on Moudud’s Niko graft case trial extended till May 14

DHAKA: The Supreme Court on Sunday (May 7) has extended the stay order until May 14 on the trial proceedings against former BNP standing committee member barrister Moudud Ahmed in Niko corruption case filed by the ACC.

A full bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Moudud for extending the stay order.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) while Moudud defended himself in court.

Earlier on April 13, a chamber judge of SC stayed the trial proceedings against Moudud until May 7 and sent the stay petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division for hearing.

In December 2007, the ACC filed the case accusing 11 people including BNP chief Khaleda Zia for misusing powers to grant a gas deal to Canadian company Niko when Khaleda was the prime minister of Bangladesh between 2001 and 2006.
