DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday (May 9) granted bail to newly elected Comilla City Corporation (CCC) mayor Monirul Haque Sakku upon surrender in a graft case filed by the ACC.
Judge (in-charge) Zahidul Kabir of the Senior Special Judges’ Court passed the order after Sakkus’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukdar filed a petition seeking bail.
Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal told Banglanews that the court also fixed May 24 for hearing on the charge framing in the case.
Special PP Mir Ahmed Ali Salam moved for the ACC in court.
On April 18 in 2017, the same court issued an arrest warrant for the BNP leader after accepting charges brought against him in the case.
On January 7 in 2008, ACC assistant director Shahin Ara Momtaz filed the case with Ramna thana accusing Sakku and her wife for their alleged involvement in concealing wealth statement of Tk 1.12 crore and misappropriating Tk 4.57 crore.
