DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that although the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had been founded for functioning independently, the incumbent government is using the watchdog to gain political motive.
He raised the allegation while speaking at a human chain formed in front of the National Press Cub in the capital on Saturday (June 17).
Amar Desh family arranged the human chain program protesting the case filed by the ACC against Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman’s wife Firoza Mahmud.
Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman, BNP vice-chairman Shaukat Mahmud and the party’s central leader Principal Selim Bhuiyan also addressed the human chain, among others.
Mirza Fakhrul protested and condemned filing of false and fabricated case against Firoza Mahmud. The case was filed to achieve political gain, he said.
He said that the government is now using the ACC to harass the people who speak truth.
