DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will stage countrywide demonstration on Monday (June 19) protesting attack on the motorcade of the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The BNP on Sunday called the demonstration following direction of the party chief Begum Khaleda Zia, said her press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan.

On Sunday morning (June 18), the delegation team of the BNP led by Mirza Fakhrul was came under attack at Rangunia in Chittgaong while en route to Rangamati to visit the people affected in recent landslides.

The delegation team also includes the party’s standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, health affairs secretary Dr Faoaz Hossain Shuvo, Chittagong divisional organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and Chittagong city unit secretary general Abul Hashem Bakkar. 

However, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were injured in the incident as brick chunks were hurled at them and some 15-20 youths vandalized their vehicles with iron rods and sticks, said Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
