DHAKA: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has condemned the attack on BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir while the BNP leader was on the way to distribute relief goods among landslide victims in hilly areas.
Quader expressed the reproach to reporters while inspecting mobile court activities on Airport Road in Dhaka on Sunday noon (June 18).
Quader said the attack was very unjust. Awami League is investigating the matter and whoever responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.
“I have already talked to the Home Minister and Inspector General of Police regarding the matter. Police is searching for the perpetrators behind the attack.”
The minister also alleged that BNP leaders never provide accurate information to police while traveling. Police had information that they would travel though Raozan upazila but instead they went through Bamunia upazila. Security measures would have been taken if police was aware.
“After the incident, BNP leaders were offered police protection for relief distribution. But they have returned home with distributing relief goods.”
Quader finally said BNP is well known for factional clash. But this might be a separate incident. Police were directed to conduct a fair investigation and take actions against attackers.
