DHAKA: Shata Nagorik Jatiya Committee, a BNP-backed platform of country’s eminent citizens, on Sunday (June 18) protested and condemned the attack on BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and his motorcade in Chittagong.

Shata Nagorik president and former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr Emazuddin Ahmed and other leaders of the platform demanded arrest and exemplary punishment those who were involved in the incident.  

The platform made the demand in a press statement signed by its member secretary Abdul Hye Shikder.   

Earlier in the morning, the miscreants attacked on the motorcade of Mirza Fakhrul and vandalized at least five vehicles at Rangunia upazila in Chittagong.

Mirza Fakhrul, who was leading a five-member delegation of the party on the way to Rangamati to visit landslides affected people, and the party’s standing committee member Ami Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were injured in the attack.
