Law Minister refrains from making formal reaction

DHAKA: Law Minister Anisul Huq on Monday (July 03) in a comment favored the 16th amendment to the Constitution, saying that the amendment was modeled following other democratic nations.

The minister, however, refrained from making formal reaction over the verdict of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court that upheld the decision of the High Court on 16th amendment to the Constitution.

Talking to journalists at his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, Anisul Huq said that the government will wait for the Supreme Court to release the full verdict to determine the next course of action.

He said that the power to remove of SC judges was in the 1971 Constitution. The power was restored through the 16th amendment to the Constitution.

Earlier, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon sharply reacted to the verdict and said that the court can’t deliver such verdict.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam also expressed dissatisfaction over the verdict.
