56 JU students appear before Court

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: 56 students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) appeared before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) on Tuesday (July 04).

General secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Union of JU unit Nazir Amin Chowdhury Joy said that the students appeared before the court at about 9:30 am.

The court ordered the 56 students to appear before the court in a case filed by the university administration, said Nazir Amin Chowdhury Joy.

In the morning, around 30 students came from campus and the rest came from neighboring areas of Dhaka city.

Meanwhile, the students alleged that the university administration canceled a university bus given in the name of an organization for students to appear before the court. Later, the students appeared before the court by community bus.

Acting charge of the vehicle office Md. Sharif Hossain was phoned several times, but he did not receive phone calls.

The university registrar Abu Bakar Siddique on May 27 filed the case with Ashulia police station on charges of vandalism, damage and threats, and blocking university's highway and VC's residence illegally.

The case was filed against 56 identified students along with 20-30 unidentified students in connection with killing of two JU students in the road accident.
