Home Minister rejects HRW’s report

DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has rejected the report of the international rights group-- Human Rights Watch (HRW).

Talking to journalists at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday (July 06), the minister said that the HRW’s report about Bangladesh is not right.

The HRW in a long report, published on July 06, claimed that Bangladesh law enforcement authorities illegally detained hundreds of people since 2013, including scores of opposition activists, and held them in secret detention.

The right group criticized the Bangladesh government for widespread practice of enforced disappearances by the law enforcement agencies in the country.

The HRW recommended prompt investigation into the allegations of such disappearances.

The report provides details of some of the over 90 reported disappearances that took place during 2016.
