Trial against Mirza Fakhrul in defamation case begins

DHAKA: A Dhaka court has framed charges against BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a defamation case filed over his derogatory remark on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nuranabi formed charges on Sunday (July 9) and fixed October 23 for further hearing.

Mirza Fakhrul's lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah told Banglanews that Fakhrul was present at court and claimed to be not guilty.

Earlier on August 24 in 2014 at a press conference in BNP’s Naya Paltan office, Fakhrul commented that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is a ‘killer’ and Awami League as ‘killer party’.

Later on September 1, Awami Matshyajibi League vice-president Nure Alam Siddiqui filed the defamation case against him.
