MP Rana’s bail hearing deferred

DHAKA: The Appellate division of Supreme Court adjourned till October 19 the hearing on a plea seeking a stay on the bail granted to Tangail-3 Awami League Lawmaker Amanur Rahman Rana, in Freedom fighter Faruq Ahmed killing case.

The four-member appellate bench led by Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah passed the order Sunday (October 15).   

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while Lawyer Rokon Uddin Mahmud moved for Rana at the courtroom. 

Earlier, MP Rana was granted an interim bail announced by the High Court bench of Justices Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and ANM Basir Ullah, on April 13.

Later, the bail order was stayed on April 18, responding a plea by the state. 

On May 8, a full appellate bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha adjourned the hearing upon the plea filed by the state for four months. 

Besides, the apex court instructed to dissolve the case within six months.

Therefore lawyers then said that the stay order upon bail was extended for more four months.

On January 18, 2013, AL Tangail district committee unit member Faruq Ahmed was shot dead. Later, a case was filed in this regard.

On February 3 in 2016, police submitted chargesheet against 14 including MP Rana and his three brothers.
