DHAKA: A Dhaka court granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
Khaleda earlier in the day appeared before the special court set up at Bakshibazar Alia Madrasha ground and appealed for bail in the cases on Thursday (October 19), a day after she returned home from United Kingdom.
Khaleda’s lawyers including BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were present at the courtroom in the morning.
Law enforcements have ensured tight security measures on occasion of the BNP Chief’s appearance before the court.
Earlier, arrest warrants were issued against Khaleda with the lower courts of Dhaka and Comilla in five cases, while she was in London, UK.
She returned home on Wednesday (October 18) after wrapping up her three-month long visit in the UK for treatment and personal reasons.
Earlier, she flew there on July 15 where she stayed at the residence of her elder son Tarique Rahman.
