DHAKA: The High Court has stayed the trial proceedings of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in four cases including a murder case filed during the anti-government movements in 2013.
An HC bench comprising Justice Md. Miftauddin Chowdhury and Justice Jafar Ahmed passed the order on Tuesday (Oct).
The court also issued a rule asking authorities concerned why the cases against Fakhrul should not be scrapped.
Earlier on Monday (Oct 23), the same HC bench also stayed trial proceedings against Fakhrul in another case.
Senior lawyer Zainul Abedin, accompanied by Sagir Hossain Leon, moved for Fakhrul while deputy attorney general Sheikh Moniruzzaman Kabir moved for the state in court.
After the hearing, Sagir Hossain said a murder case was filed against BNP men including Mirza Fakhrul over an arson attack on a passenger bus that left one person dead on Nov 30 in 2013.
Moreover, three more sabotage cases were filed against Fakhrul and others over clash between BNP men and police in city’s Shahjahan area in 2013.
