JESSORE: A Jessore court has awarded ten years imprisonment to former BNP MP of Jhenaidah-2 (Sadar and Harinakundu) on charges of embezzlement and concealment of wealth information.
The court delivered the verdict against Moshiur Rahman, also an adviser of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, on Wednesday (October 25). The court also fined him Tk. 70,000.
Judge of the Jessore Special District Court Nitai Chandra Kumar Saha announced the verdict in presence of the convicted BNP leader.
Moshiur Rahman was sentenced under two sections in two separate cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Tk. 10, 569, 300 were also confiscated from him in favor of the state.
Jessore Court Police Inspector Rezaul Islam told Banglanews that the BNP leader will be sent to Jessore Central Jail.
Meanwhile, Jhenaidah district BNP called a half-day hartal for Thursday (October 26) in the district following the verdict. The hartal will be enforced from 6:00 to 12:00 pm.
District BNP organizing secretary Advocate MA Mazid confirmed the matter of hartal.
