Kurigram Jamaat ameer among 10 sent to jail

KURIGRAM: A Kurigram court on Wednesday (October 25) sent 10 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including the district unit ameer Abdul Matin Faruqi to jail in a case filed under Special Power Act.

Kurigram sadar upazila unit Jamaat secretary Foyez Uddin was also among the 10.

Kurigram Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Mizanur Rahman passed the order in the noon.

Police sources said that tipped-off they conducted a drive at a hostel in Adarsha Para area in the town and detained one Faridul Haque, a Jamaat activist, on September 12.

They were holding a secret meeting.

Some leaflets were also seized in the drive.  

Police, as a plaintiff, filed a case under 30 Jamaat leaders and activists on charge of their link in anti-government plot.

Kurigram district Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abraham Lincon directed the case for the state while Advocate Tajul Islam directed for the accused. 

PP Advocate Abraham Lincon told Banglanews that two of the accused were earlier granted bail by the High Court while the rest were absconding.

Of them, 10 accused appeared before the court Wednesday and pleaded for bail.

The court rejected their plea and sent them to jail, added the PP.
