Govt giving all-out efforts to grip power: Mirza Fakhrul

DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the ruling Awami League has no public support and for this they are struggling at best to cling to the power in any way.

He said this at a rally at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) in the city on Wednesday (October 25). Dhaka south city unit of the party arranged the rally protesting arrest warrant for BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the Awami League is using cases as a weapon to suppress the opposition party. As part of their strategy, they have brought all cases to the final stage to punish the BNP men, he added.

“The government is putting Tarique Rahman under cases in order to keep him away from politics as they are fearful of him,” said Mirza Fakhrul.

In a response to Election Commission (EC), he said, “The entire nation is paying attention to EC. However, EC has no capacity or audacity to work against the wishes of people who constituted it.
