Khaleda denied permanent bail in Orphanage case BNP Chief Khaleda Zia in court

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday (Nov 2) rejected a parmanent bail petition of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case filed against her by the ACC.

The court also fixed Nov 9 for next hearing.

Earlier in the day Khaleda Zia appeared before court around 11:25am to deliver her self-defense on Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.

During the hearing, Khaleda’s lawyers filed for her permanent bail in court. Her lawyer Joynul Abedin said, “Khaleda Zia is a three times Prime Minister of this country and not a kind of person who flees. She never misused or took advantage of the court. Earlier she went to London for treatment and returned home for hearing. So we are appealing before the court to grant her permanent bail considering her circumstances.”

However, state-side lawyers claimed that Khaleda misused court orders.

The ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station on August 8 in 2011, against four, including Khaleda, of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources through abuse of power.

ACC filed Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station, accusing Khaleda, her elder son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore of grants money for orphans.
