DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has commented that she is being harassed in the graft cases as part of ill-motive to punish her in quickest time.
She made the comment while delivering her self-defense statement before the special court on Bakshibazar Aliya Madrasa premises in the capital on Thursday (November 2)
Khaleda Zia delivered her self-defense before the court on Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.
Advocate Zainul Abedin, lawyer of Khaleda Zia, quoted Khaleda’s speech, “The ruling party ministers are ranting that I’m to be put in Kashimpur Jail before the pronouncement of the verdict of a case which is still underway.”
“Therefore, I’m in doubt if the court would do me justice,” said the BNP chief.
She alleged that she is denied of justice in order to prevent her from politics and make her appear ineligible for the election.
Khaleda Zia came to the court in self-defense to participate in the hearing of a corruption case issued against Zia Charitable and Zia Orphanage Trust at 11:25 am.
The next date of hearing was fixed on Thursday (November 9).
On August 8 in 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station on charge of raising funds for the trust from unknown sources through abuse of power.
The ACC filed Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3 in 2008 with Ramna Police Station, accusing Khaleda, her elder son Tarique Rahman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that was received as grants for orphans via a foreign bank.
