DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy has commented that the ruling Awami League will boycott the next parliamentary elections if the possibility of holding the polls in free and fair manner exits.
He made the comment at a rally at the National Press Club in the city on Sunday (November 05).
Sammilita Chhatra Forum, a pro-BNP organization, arranged the rally demanding the release of the Dhaka south city unit Jubo Dal president Rafiqul Islam Majnu and joint general secretary Syed Hasan Mintu and other leaders and activists of the BNP and its front bodies.
Goyeshwar Chandra said, “I predict that if there is a minimum possibility of free and fair elections, AL will boycott the elections, because the party fear the free and fair elections.”
“BNP will participate in the elections, but not under Sheikh Hasina. We make it clear that the BNP is still a thorn in the neck of Sheikh Hasina. We would not say that we can’t participate in the next elections for the same reasons we didn’t in 2014,” he said.
Convener of Sammilita Chhatra Forum Nahidul Islam Nahid chaired the rally, while BNP joint secretary general Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, organizing secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu and Jubo Dal president Saiful Alam Nirab also spoke at the function, among others.
