DHAKA: The Supreme Court has rejected BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s petition to change the trial court in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The five-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Acting Chief Justice Md Abdul Wahab Miah scrapped the BNP chief’s plea on Monday (November 06).
Lawyer of Supreme Court AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan moved for the BNP chief in the court, while the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was represented by Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan.
Earlier, the High Court turned down Khaleda Zia’s petition to change judges in the case for four times. The HC on August 20 last scrapped Khaleda Zia’s petition and added some observations on the matter.
Later, the BNP chief filed a petition with SC challenging the HC decision.
A special court set up on the premise of Dhaka Alia Madrasha at Bakshibazar in the city is hearing two graft cases against Khaleda Zia and others, involving Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust.
The Zia Orphanage Trust graft case was filed by the ACC in 2008 on charge of embezzling Tk 21 million.
