DHAKA: The High Court on Tuesday (Nov 7) rejected a plea filed by Tangail-3 constituency Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana seeking cancellation of the charges framed against him by a trial court in freedom fighter Faruk murder case.
An HC bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukdar cleared the way for trial proceedings against MP Rana.
Advocate Hedayet kabir Khan moved for MP Rana while Deputy Attorney General Zahid Sarwar Kajol moved for the state in court.
Earlier on Sep 6, court of Tangail Additional District and Sessions Judge Abul Mansur Mia started the trial by framing charge against Rana. However, he did not appear before court for hearing.
Aside from MP Rana, 14 others including three brothers of Rana are facing charges in the sensational murder case.
On Jan 18 in 2013, freedom fighter and Awami League's Tangail District Committee member Faruque Ahmed was shot dead. Later a case was filed in this connection accusing MP Rana and others. Rana surrendered before a trial court on Sep 18 and sent to jail. He is currently in Kashimpur prison.
