BNP gets permission for rally on 23 conditions

DHAKA: The authorities concerned have permitted the BNP to hold Sunday’s rally at  Suhrawardy Udyan in the city.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday (November 11) said that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has given permission to hold the rally on 23 conditions.
 
He said this at a press conference at the party's Nayapalan central office in the city.

BNP standing committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Mirza Abbas, vice chairmen Abdullah Al Noman, Ahmed Azam Khan and Nitai Roy Chowdhury, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, joint secretary generals Khairul Kabir Khokon and Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel were present at the press conference, among others

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will address the rally. The BNP is holding the November 12 rally in observance of the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.

The party initially had planned to hold the rally on November 08, but rescheduled it due to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference.

Mirza Fakhrul said that they received the permission letter from the DMP on Saturday, though the government had refused to give consent earlier. The government has become compelled to give permission as there was no alternative, he said.

The BNP leader said that the rally will be held on any conditions to get Khaleda Zia’s message across the country.

He criticized Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader for his statement about the rally. He urged the AL leader not to provoke, but to change his views and help the government in the interest of democracy.

According to Mirza Fakhrul, the conditions pertaining for the rally include- no provocative statements or leaflets, all activities should be restricted to the Engineering Institution of Suhrawardy Udyan, no sound boxes can not be used outside the approved areas, no gatherings in streets and footpaths beyond approved areas, no demonstrative entry into the rally.
