GAZIPUR: A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, was killed in a road accident at Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur on Saturday (November 25).

A constable of Kaliganj police station was also injured in the road accident that took place on Kaliganj-Ghorashal road at Mulgoan Mosque area at the upazila at noon.  

The deceased BCL leader was identified as Mahfuz Hasan, 24, son of Solaiman of South Rajnagar area at the upazila. He was an assistant secretary of Kaliganj upazila unit of the BCL.

The injured policeman is Rumon, 25.   

According to police and the locals, the police member was trying to catch a truck through motorcycle of Mahfuz. The BCL leader was driving the bike. At one stage, a covered van hit the bike, leaving Mahfuz dead on the spot.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj police station Md Alam Chand said that Ruman was sent to the hospital.
