Obaidul Quader speaks against BCL school committee

DHAKA: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said that there is no need to form the school committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

He said this while speaking at a function of the BCL held at Bangla Academy in the city on Saturday (December 23).

The student wing of the ruling party arranged the function in observance of the Victory Day 2017.

Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said that the students should focus more on the studies than the politics. It will be a burden for the students if the politics comes in the school level. The students of colleges and universities can be involved in politics, he added.

About the results of Rangpur city polls, he said that the Awami League is still now popular in Rangpur although the party loses the mayor post in that city.

“Although we lost the mayor post in the Rangpur city polls, we are number 1 party in Rangpur. 14 councilor candidates of Awami League won the polls, while six other winner candidates will work for us. On the other hand, BNP got seven councilor posts and Jatiya Party got only two posts. The calculation is important for us. Our party’s stance is firm there,” he said.

Obaidul Quader asked the BCL men to be alert so that their any activity can’t harm the party. The BCL school committee will bring criticism for the party, he said.

Last month, BCL’s central executive committee asked all its organizational units to set up committees at school level in their respective areas across the country.

The decision was made at a meeting of the central executive body. It was informed through a press release on November 21, signed by BCL central executive committee President Saifur Rahman Sohag and Secretary SM Zakir Hossain
