DHAKA: A Dhaka court has placed Bangladesh Kalyan Party’s Secretary General MM Aminur Rahman, who has been arrested nearly four months after he reportedly went missing, on a four-day remand in a case filed with city’s Gulshan police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrat Biswas on Saturday (December 23) passed the order after the inspector of DB police Zihad Hossain produced the Kalyan Party leader before the court with an appeal of 10-day remand.
Police sought the remand in the case filed with Gulshan police station on February 16 in 2015.
The case was filed on charge of bomb attack on a procession of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan. The procession was marching towards BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office to lay siege to it.
Police claimed that MM Aminur Rahman had connection in the incident. However, the Kalyan Party leader’s name was not included in the first information report (FIR) in the bomb attack case.
Detective Branch (DB) of police claimed that they ‘arrested’ MM Aminur Rahman on Friday night (December 22) from Gulshan’s Shahjadpur area. Later, he was shown arrested in the case.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DB (Dhaka north) Shahjahan Saju told Banglanews that `MM Aminur Rahman was in hiding over four months to avoid arrest`.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Bangladesh Kalyan Party Maj Gen (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim Bir Pratik said that his party’s leader was missing since August.
MM Aminur Rahman went missing on August 27 since he left the Kalyan Party’s office at Nayapaltan for his Savar residence.
Later, his family members filed a general diary (GD) with Paltan police station.
Bangladesh Kalyan Party is a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
